Hypnotherapy, or trance work, has been around for thousands of years as a means for deep healing, and as a means for achieving excellence in any and all aspects of yourself that you seek to improve in. Everyone has heard the old saying that we use only 10% of our brain, well that is true when we are talking about our conscious use. The other 90% is all directed and used by our unconscious mind.
So what is your unconscious mind and what does it do? Your unconscious mind takes care of everything in your life!!! EVERYTHING!! Your unconscious mind takes care of and controls all the movements and processes in your body. It filters the 2 – 3 Billion bits of information coming in to your senses every moment so that your conscious mind can make sense of what is happening around you. It learns and manages all your behaviors and habits. It is the home of all your emotions. In essence, it is easier to look at what it doesn’t do.
So let’s take a quick look at your conscious mind and what it does for you. Your conscious mind can only handle 7 bits of information at a time, plus or minus 2 for the average person. Your conscious mind is the rational thinking part of you. It is the part that directs the focus of the unconscious mind. It filters what ideas, beliefs, and actions it wants your unconscious mind to act on. As soon as you have learned something, it gets moved into the realm of the unconscious mind. Remember when you were learning to drive a car, you had to put a lot of energy into where your hands were, what was going on around you, which foot went where and how hard to press on the gas or brake. Now most of you don’t put any conscious attention into driving. You probably don’t notice any aspects of it anymore. It is also why you can be talking on the phone, changing the radio station, and drinking a coffee or soda, all while driving. Your unconscious mind has taken control of the learned aspects for you.
This is where hypnotherapy and trance work is so powerful. For most people, once a habit or behavior is learned, and your unconscious mind has taken over, it becomes difficult to retrain or reprogram your unconscious mind to end the unwanted habit and begin the new habit you desire. Trance work allows you to go right into the area of your mind that controls it all, and make the changes quickly and easily. You will not have to spend so much time energy and focus to maintain the new habit, because your unconscious mind will already have made the switch for you.

You see it used by many pro athletes like Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, and the USA Olympic teams. Oprah had a special a few years back on hypnosis, where she had a hypnotist come in and hypnotize the audience and talk about past life regressions. So it is really starting to get the respect and consideration it deserves as the powerful tool for self enhancement and change that it is.
A quick description of trance is that it is just an intense focus, by the unconscious areas of your mind, where your conscious mind has stepped aside. It is the same state that you go into every time you watch a television show you enjoy, or read a book, drive a car, do a hobby. You are always in control while in trance, and you always only perform the processes that you want to.
