As you can read about on the hypnotherapy page, your unconscious mind controls and runs all of your behaviors and habits. It also controls all aspects of your body. So right now, raise your right arm. Now pick your left leg up. This is an example of how your unconscious mind works to do as you desire. You thought “raise my right arm” and your unconscious mind did it for you. Your conscious mind could never control the 150+ muscles from your shoulder to your fingers to make it move, it is all controlled and performed by your unconscious mind. So why doesn’t your unconscious mind just drop a bad habit like overeating when you tell it to? Hypnotherapy and NLP will show you how.

When you learn a behavior, or habit, your unconscious mind takes over and will continue performing that behavior. Your unconscious mind is extremely powerful and it will always win out over your conscious mind when it comes to behaviors. That is why people have so much trouble with “willpower”. What people call willpower is just a state of focus by the conscious mind to override the unconscious mind’s programming. The unconscious mind will ALWAYS win. As soon as you take your focus off the new direction, the unconscious mind steps in and resumes the old behavior, at least until it has learned the new “program” or behavior you desire.

There are 2 ways to reprogram your unconscious mind. The first is the old-fashioned way, by repetition. This is the “willpower” way. It takes a long time, lots of continuous focus, and energy. If you maintain this focus on the new behavior long enough, your unconscious mind will eventually get the new behavior as a new program, or habit. The trouble comes when you are almost there, and you lose focus…bam, your unconscious mind goes back to the old behaviors.

The second method is to go into the unconscious mind, and rewrite the programming. This is what trance work, and NLP, excel at. They go directly to the parts of you that run the behavior programs, and changes them. When you go in, install the new programming, you don’t have to use “willpower”. Your unconscious mind will take care of the new behaviors for you. You will be unconsciously driven to perform those behaviors you want that you installed in yourself.
